It is a fact that I am sadly trying to cope with that as a parent I cannot control my children’s interests. I can only try my best to keep them as safe and happy as possible. My son’s newest hobby is guns, GUNS!!! He can tell you just about anything about them. I only assume them to be truthful facts, as I know less than nothing about guns. I can say that I have once shot a gun, and it was an entertaining but terrifying experience. Guns just scare me. However you argue it, in the wrong hands guns do hurt people. I believe they are necessary, I just wish they didn’t interest my son. We agreed after many rules and a gun safety course that he could have his own BB or Airsoft gun. So this year’s birthday was filled with guns & ammo, including the cake.
This cake is a great example as to how plans can change and you never really can tell how a cake will work out untill you get into it. I had originally planned on making just a gray base but while I was coloring the fondant I loved the way it marbled when I added the black coloring. It gave it a kind of stone marble look that seemed so appropriate for a gun cake. I had also intended on a red gumpaste target on the top, but as I was cutting the rings out they looked messy on the cake. So I trashed them and painted the target on instead and was so much happier with it. The birthday boy of course loved his gun cake and had a very happy birthday! My fingers are crossed that this hobby will pass quickly and my now teenage son will find a new way to challenge me.
